We are excited to announce that Dr. Blair Nelson will join the SCBHS team on September 5, 2017. Join me in welcoming him to SCBHS and back to the community.
“I was born and raised in Grand Forks, North Dakota. I graduated from Red River High School Valedictorian in 1990. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from University of North Dakota with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Psychology December, 1993. During my senior year of high school and throughout college I worked full-time as a radio disc jockey at KKXL FM/XL-93 in Grand Forks. I moved to Minneapolis in 1994 and attended the University of Minnesota Medical School and graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) in 1998. I then moved to Arizona and completed my residency program in Family Medicine at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale where I was honored with the position of “Chief Resident” my senior year. I moved back to MN after residency and began practicing Emergency Medicine in Detroit Lakes, MN and Fargo, ND.
I lived on Lake Ida in Cormorant Village for 12 years while practicing and was blessed with two wonderful children, Livia (age 16) and Jack (age 14) who live with me part-time and attend school in Sleepy Eye, MN where they currently live with their mother.
In 2012, I suffered from some major medical issues and was forced to take a sabbatical from medicine. While regaining my health, I returned to my former profession in radio and had the great pleasure to work in Benson at 93.5 FM KSCR under the pseudonym “Jack Blair” with the gracious opportunity of Mr. John Jennings.
In March of 2017, I was given the incredible opportunity to return to medicine. I returned to Minneapolis to study for exams and complete the necessary requirements to return to practice. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity given to me by Mr. Kurt Waldbillig, Dr. Richard Horecka, and the rest of the team at Swift County Benson Health Services to return to my PASSION of practicing medicine.
I am eternally grateful for the love and support given to me from my family and this community as both a “D.J.” and an “M.D.”. I am blessed with many wonderful people in my life, including my fiancé Tamie Caulder (who is a Chiropractic Physician specializing in holistic medicine and animal chiropractics), my two amazing children (Liv and Jack), and my soon-to-be step-daughter Christina (age 13).
I love music (play drums), movies, reading, running (Tamie is still trying to get me to run a marathon with her), and playing golf. I am also a very active in sober-living and spirituality.”
