Nicholas Cain is accepting patients as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Call 320-843-2030 to schedule.
Cain was born and raised in Orlando, FL. At the age of 20, he went
into the Marine Corps, where he learned the value of working as
a team. He was never deployed; however, he spent most of his
time with a counter terrorism unit in Washington, D.C. After his
military service, he was a corrections officer with Charles County
Sheriff’s Office in Maryland.
Eventually he decided to pursue a career in nursing. He
completed his nursing degree at SDSU in 2015. He went on to
work in nursing roles in a variety of care settings including a
large hospital oncology unit, nursing home, and critical access
hospitals.
“Nursing has been a major blessing in my life,” Nick explained. “It
also follows my Christian faith.”
Cain decided to continue his education to bring care to rural
communities. He completed his Doctor of Nurse Practitioner
degree in 2021, having gained practical experience in clinics
throughout western Minnesota and eastern South Dakota.
Nick has an interest in sports medicine and in encouraging men
to establish care.
“Men often do not establish care with a primary care provider
until after 50 years of age,” explained Cain. “This can lead to
possible years of untreated conditions such as hypertension and
diabetes, which can increase the risk of disability and mortality in
men at younger ages.”
Since November, Cain has been seeing patients at SCBHS Clinic
in the Urgent Care until he is recognized by insurance companies
as a credentialed family medicine provider in our clinic.
“I have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know patients through
these past few months working in the urgent care setting,” said
Cain. “It has been a great start as I begin to establish care with
families in the community.”
Nick and his wife, Sara, have been married for 15 years.
They have three sons, ages 13, 11, and 10. They live on a hobby
farm outside of Madison, MN, with horses, cows, chickens and
too many dogs. He enjoys hunting, camping, riding horses with
family, archery, and almost anything outdoors.
